Roots: How it all Started
V.O.I.C.E.S Radio stands for Valuable Opportunities Inspiring Collaborations to Elevate Soulciety — the Soul of Society — through meaningful conversation, culture, and community connection.
Founded in 2015 by Joffe' 'Nexus' Wright, V.O.I.C.E.S Radio began as a community-based radio show on WUTU 88.3 FM in Albany. What started as a local platform for dialogue has evolved into a creative and cultural space dedicated to empowering individuals and strengthening communities through conversation, music, and shared experiences.
V.O.I.C.E.S was created with the intention of engaging communities in dialogue that inspires transformation in thought, encourages action, and promotes collective healing. Through authentic discussion and intentional storytelling, we aim to expose listeners to resources, organizations, and businesses that support the growth and development of Soulciety.
Our conversations explore issues that directly impact our communities, including:
- current and historical events
- health and wellness
- economics and entrepreneurship
- culture and creativity
- spiritual awareness and personal growth
We believe healing begins with healthy dialogue and a willingness to listen, learn, and evolve together.
Recognizing the importance of balance and perspective, Christopher 'Chris' Jenkins joined the platform, bringing an additional male perspective to the conversations and community engagement, he served as co-host until 2019.
Music has always been a vital part of cultural storytelling across the African Diaspora. For generations, sound has been used to educate, empower, uplift, and connect people across borders and experiences. At V.O.I.C.E.S Radio, we continue that tradition through what we call “revolving sounds” — a carefully curated blend of classic Hip-Hop, soulful sounds, independent artistry, and contemporary voices carrying the message forward for a new generation.
Our mission is to bridge gaps, spark awareness, and create space for expression, healing, and elevation — one conversation at a time.

"Armed with the knowledge of our past, we can with confidence charter a course for our future. Culture is an indispensable weapon in the freedom struggle. We must take hold of it and forge the future with the past"
